History Of The Black Golden Retriever

He aimed to create a breed capable of excelling in retrieving games during hunting campaigns. Lord Tweedmouth crossed a yellow Retriever with a now-extinct breed called the Tweed Water Spaniel. The offspring of this cross were the foundation of the Golden Retriever breed.

While the primary goal was to produce dogs with exceptional retrieving abilities, the coat color wasn’t a top priority at the time. Over the years, selective breeding for the golden coat became the norm, and the black-coated individuals were less frequently seen.
